Unlike personality and temperament, self-esteem isn’t something we’re born with. People develop their sense of self-worth by studying how others perceive them. With only negative reinforcement, it is very difficult for children to develop a sense of self-worth. However, with praise and encouragement, children begin to develop a sense of pride in themselves that will sustain them for the rest of their lives.
